Autumn Bircher Muesli

I posted a very fruity Bircher muesli back in May but the seasons have moved on and berries are not so plentiful in the shops.  My Braeburn apple tree is laden with fruit begging to be picked and eaten.  This year has been a fantastic year for apples and there is something about autumn which just makes me crave the flavours of cinnamon.

Perhaps not quite as healthy as my previous version but certainly seasonal.  Nothing makes you feel better than eating fruit within minutes of picking it.

Autumn Bircher Muesli - Serves 1 for a filling breakfast

Ingredients

1 Apple
2 tbsp Porridge oats
2 tbsp Raisins
1 tbsp Walnuts
1/2 tsp Ground Cinnamon
Milk (use a nut or soy milk if you prefer)

Method

Grate the apple including the skin but excluding the core, what I do is grate the apple on a microplane style grater and stop as I reach the core.

Break up the walnuts into chunky pieces and mix together with the other ingredients and milk to taste.  Serve.

I've linked this up to recipe of the week.

  1. This looks so tasty and wholesome! I've gone apple-picking at local orchards a few times this fall, but that must be so lovely to have your very own apple tree! Fresh-picked fruit really is a treat.

    1. You might not realise it but every garden is big enough for an apple tree. My garden isn't massive and I planted one in a garden half the size. Just check with the garden centre what root stock it is grafted onto as you can have one which is a dwarf tree and never gets too big.
