This morning I went on a 6.5 mile training run. I had a plan for a healthy lunch but in the supermarket there was a beautiful looking fillet steak which was reduced so this was my delicious lunch.
Yes, this is indulgent, no way is it healthy but this is all about one of the greatest sandwiches you'll eat. It's a bit messy to eat so have a napkin nearby. Cucumber and tomatoes are optional, some rocket leaves would be lovely as well.
This is also a great way to pad out a small steak. If you served this with one or two side dishes this would be a great meal for two.
Steak Sandwich - Serves 1 generously or 2 with a side dish (sweet potato chips would be awesome)
Ingredients
Approx 170g, 6oz Fillet steak
Spray oil or vegetable oil
15g, 1/2oz Butter
1 tsp Mayonnaise
1 tsp Dijon mustard
Cucumber, tomato, rocket etc (optional)
Small baguette
Method
Heat a frying pan with oil or spray oil. When hot, put the steak in the pan. While this is starting to fry, warm a plate in a microwave.
Fry the steak on both sides until done to your liking. Add butter at the end and fry until the butter melts and starts to turn a very light golden colour. Take off the heat and put on the warm plate basting the steak with the butter then cover with a bowl. Leave to rest for a few minutes.
Cut open the baguette and spread the mayonnaise on one side and mustard on the other. When the steak has rested, slice opposite to the grain and put the slices on the baguette, season, then drizzle with some of the buttery juices. Top with any salad you fancy then devour.
Yeah, after 6 miles I earned that!
